Potty Training Your New Puppy
Potty training a puppy can be tough, and it’s very important to go into the process with patience. It won’t happen overnight So having an open mind and an open heart for your new puppy is crucial to their success. Accidents are normal. Just remember, it’s all part of the learning process. it’s important to keep your new pup in a smaller space at first. Don’t worry, you can expand the space over time. Crate training a puppy can help with the potty training process. Find a crate where they can stand, lie down, and turn around. Size is important! If the crate is too big, they will think it’s okay to relieve themselves in the corner. The more your puppy wants to be in their den, the easier it will be during training. Be sure to add some comforting items to make the crate as inviting as possible. Routines are key in puppy training. Without a regular schedule, puppies feel confused and will resort to instinct. Having a consistent daily routine helps puppies learn what to expect when, and how to behave. Puppies need to be fed about three times a day. If your puppy is fed at the same time every day, it increases the chances that they will need to potty at the same time as well. Start the day by taking your puppy out first thing in the morning. Remember to also be consistent about where you take your pup to go. If they are taken to the same spot outside, the scent will encourage them to continue using that area. Please remember a puppy can only control their bladder for one hour per month of age. if the pup is three months old, they should never have to wait longer than 3 hours to go potty.
